Chapter 708 - Visiting the in-laws: Ancient City of Kalina (Part 4)

My father-in-law personally sent a speedy response to my letter and agreed with the plans I had. He also politely mentioned about the possibility that I could bring his son as well though he seemed to be shy to make a direct request. Finally, he simply said that he and everyone are excited to hear from me and finally meet me for the first time in a few days.After making sure that everything I needed to do for my job was completed in the central area of Kalina where the duke’s household was in, I disappeared again without a trace just like what I did in the other territory. This time though, I made sure to leave an official letter in the duke’s household to make sure that he sees to it that all the punishments are completed or else he would hear directly from the royal family.

Sometimes, threats do work especially if the other person knows that you mean business and would definitely do what you say. So, to put an icing on the cake, I even added to the same letter that if he was caught being passive again with the rewards and punishments not only on these recent cases but everything else that may happen afterward then he might also be added to the demotion and pay cut list as well.

To make it even more effective, I added a mysterious twist by disappearing from the territory before anyone can come speak with me again. So even before the sun rose the next day, I am already on my way to the territory where the Quillon family lives in.

It was at least 4 hours away to get there so leaving this early, I would arrive just in time to look around for a bit at the early morning market before knocking on the gates of the Quillon family for my very first official in-law visit. I have already confirmed that my father-in-law has already moved out of the main household and decided to live in a separate villa but for courtesy reasons, I have to visit the main household first. I would just go visit my father-in-law’s household afterwards once all the formalities in the main household had been completed.

I arrived at the town named Papierey which was named after the ancient term for "paper" in this world. It is actually quite fitting as most industries in the Duchy of Kalina depended on the use of paper and other products made out of it. The addition of the other arts to their history only came afterwards as more people with artistic inclinations moved to Kalina to further their studies and careers.

The Quillon family being a family of scribes, scholars and eventually merchants started out in this very same town. They have expanded their influence from here and eventually was able to acquire more land for their growing number of family members and businesses as well.

The Quillon family’s main household is smack in the center of Papierey which is why I am here this early in the morning, just half an hour after the sun rose. As per the reports from Quest, the morning market opens quite early here so I came here a few hours earlier before my official visit at 8am to my in-laws.

Sporting a different face this time, I went from one store to the other admiring their wares. As an office worker, I kind of have developed a certain kind of addiction to pretty looking paper and owning several writing tools though I can only use one at a given time. I can say that "PAPIEREY IS A PARADISE FOR MY ADDICTION TO PAPER AND WRITING STUFF!"

I went to every single store and I honestly can say that I bought at least one item from each since everything they sell were pretty, cute, affordable, convenient, unique, practical and all other excuses that my mind can think off to justify my purchase. It hasn’t been 30 minutes and my personal storage was already filled with different types of paper products such as writing pads, notebooks, scrolls, paper for painting and boxes of beautifully crafted pens. I made sure to place it in my personal storage, the one that is not shared with any of my husbands since I might get scolded again for buying too much useless stuff.

I already gave a heads up to Calix that I already reached Papierey and he has been bothering me since then about bringing him over already but I made excuses to delay it so I can shop freely. My husbands from the palace are quite strict with following a certain kind of budget since they know that my household has quite a lot of members now. I know that they are just worried that I won’t be able to support the whole family with how much I freely spend my money. It is my fault though since I never told them how wealthy I really am.

To keep Calix off from pestering me for the teleportation, I asked him if he wanted to meet the members of the main household or he just wants to appear once I am in his father’s personal villa. Surprisingly, he was quiet for some time as if he was thinking very carefully about what he will do or say next.

With a sigh, he told me that it would be best to still meet the main household though he is quite sure that some members won’t like his existence. His father is now handling most of the finances and business for the family apart from his own personal businesses. He also has the most amount of wealth of all the descendants of his current generation.

Most of the elders were quite against the fact that my father-in-law never remarried, never had another child after he lost the first one and that he even decided to move out of the main household to manage his own household branch. Calix was quite sure that his existence is just another thing that they would complain about since now, his father’s branch will have an official heir.
